Bradley Manning’s court martial is like Jonathan Swift’s small Lilliputians trying to constrain a great man.

Gulliver’s Travels: A Voyage to Lilliput

Lilliputan society has a highly developed legal system, in which falsely accusing someone is a capital offence and a liar is considered lower than a thief. In this legal system people are not only punished for crimes, but people are rewarded for doing good things. The legal system in Lilliput understands there are some circumstances in which breaking the law is acceptable, even necessary, such as when the emperor’s wife’s room catches fire and Gulliver alone is able to put it out by urinating on it (although, in a later political ousting this issue is raised again). Although he has broken a law regarded public decency, he is honored and thanked. The government of Lilliput cares for its young and its poor with no exceptions. Although many laws and customs of Lilliput are far from ideal, there are notable similarities between Lilliput and a utopian government.

Peace.

Are the military cracked? Isolating, denigrating, humiliating and creating an inhumane environment and conditions does not make a suicidal person feel better does it? And as a real soldier I know Private Manning put that thought right out of his head. The sods guarding him tried real hard to put it in. And they are not military anything because they displayed neither honor nor integrity nor guts. And as for aiding the enemy with what girlie talk from gossipy diplomats. His treatment has violated so many laws that the case should be thrown out and it has been so prejudged and prejudicial it absolutely has to be.
