The Apache Helicopter pilots had been called in by an American soldier in the Humvee (Hotel 2/6). Both crews were engaging enemy combatants reported by this soldier to be east of his location. Two separate positions are mentioned in the transcript – each in that open courtard – one of which was used by the Reuters photographer to photograph the Humvee.

In Al Jazeera’s, “Permission to Engage,” another Reuters employee said Namir left at 6:00 am to photograph an American Hunvee being attacked by insurgents – that’s precisely what he did!

Many of the enemy combatants in that open courtyard, as is true in many of the other gun-site videos posted on the internet where insurgents have become aware of approaching Apaches, have placed their weapons nearby and are walking around pretending to be innocent civilians.
