Military Transfers Manning

BAGHDAD, Iraq – U.S. Army officials transferred PFC Bradley Manning from the Theater Field Confinement Facility in Kuwait to the Marine Corps Base Quantico Brig in Quantico, Virginia, on July 29. Manning remains in pretrial confinement pending an Article 32 investigation into the charges preferred against him on July 5. Manning was transferred because of the potential for lengthy continued pretrial confinement given the complexity of the charges and ongoing investigation. The field confinement facility in Kuwait is designed for short-term confinement.
The criminal investigation remains open. Preferral of charges represents an accusation only; Manning is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The case will be processed in accordance with normal procedures under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
With this transfer to Quantico, Manning is now under the General Courts-Martial Convening Authority of Maj. Gen. Karl Horst, the commander of U. S. Army Military District of Washington. Manning will remain in pre-trial confinement as the Army continues its investigation.
An Article 32 investigation is similar to a civilian grand jury hearing or a preliminary hearing. The investigating officer will make findings and recommendations that the chain of command considers in determining whether to recommend the case be referred to trial by court-martial.

I really do not like political correctness, despite that dislike, I am choosing to use some free speech restraint. I cannot support the actions of PFC Bradley Manning, because he chose to illegally share this information with a group that is dying to smear our great nation. I would have much more respect for this young Soldier, has he decided to “blow his whistle” to someone within our own governmental system. There are plenty of legislators who do not support this war, who would love to take this and run with it.
By leaking this information in this manner, PFC Manning has brought great harm to his “Brothers In Arms”, who are still in the thick of the battle.
As far as the Apache footage, I find no real fault in the actions of the pilots; they saw what they thought were weapons, and acted accordingly. War is Hell, and unfortuantely, innocent people will be wounded and could possibly die, as a result of the “Fog of War.”
Our enemy is not Islam, it is a radical group of Islamic Jihadists, who happpens to be in the minority of Muslims. However, we cannot lose sight that this minority group, is still a sizeable force, who has sworn to kill all infidels. They want us dead! So, if someone wantrs me dead, and I can remove that threat before he brings harm to me, my family, or my fellow man, so be it! I would take the same action that those Soldiers did.
You are entitled to you opinion. One question, though.

Were the Apache pilots afraid that they were going to use that van to run them over, which is why they blew the crap out of it and those trying to help another human being?
The so called “radical islam group” in Iraq never wanted you dead before US army enter their land and bomb them. I am even not sure they wanted to do it now. They have nothing to do with 911 attack but their current life is not far away from hell.
Their hatred towards American people never existed until their received these murders. Now the radical group find themselves much easier to recruit someone to commit suicide attack or some stupid things like that.
Since those who were murdered don’t have same powerful weapons as you do, if you bomb them, you probably don’t care for their hatreds, but meanwhile, the radical Muslims also don’t tell the victims only the murders should to be hated. They told victims the whole Americans population have to be hated and killed. The radicals will misguide victims their revenge to those innocent American civilians who can not protect themselves, exactly like American army put their revenge for 911 attack to those innocent Iraq who can not protect themselves. You don’t care those Americans but they have to care themselves.
Any kinds of these so-called “revenge on innocents” will invite more people join this game of hatred. Does it make American safer? Even 3000 US soldiers can not keep them alives, no mention civilians in future. The so-called anti-terrorism war make more American victims than the 911 attack and God knows how many non-Americans. I sincerely hope it will never happen to your own family members, and never to your children and grand grand children who are not born yet. You should think about their safety too.
Mercy and commiseration for innocent victims are the basis of peace. Penalty can prevent more crimes and victims only if it is committed on those guilty.

The Military Whistleblower Protection Act, Title 10 U.S.C. 1034, as amended, prohibits interference with a military member’s right to make protected communications to members of Congress; Inspectors General; members of DoD audit, inspection, investigation or law enforcement organizations; and other persons or organizations (including the chain of command) designated by regulation or administrative procedures. A protected communication is any lawful communication to a Member of Congress or an IG, as well as any communication made to a person or organization designated under competent regulations to receive such communications, which a member of the Armed Services reasonably believes reports a violation of law or regulation (including sexual harassment, unlawful discrimination, mismanagement, a gross waste of funds or other resources, abuse of authority, or a substantial or specific danger to public health or safety.
Therein lies your problem. I’ve mentioned it a few times but no one wants to hear it. Any military member has two major options with information like Manning thought he had. One is to go to the Inspector General, they are easily reachable, even at remote bases in Iraq (he was on a major base, the IG has a phone number, email and physical office.) The second is to contact your congressman, which triggers an investigation called a “Congressional.” Both are taken very seriously, and the service person cannot suffer any repercussions for doing so, even if the claim proves unfounded.
Furthermore, if the soldier wishes, they can be moved to a different unit after either case.
Manning did not use his official options for whistleblowing, he chose to leak top secret files onto the internet. Bad Private!

Soldiers that come foreward with whistleblower information generally do so in the proper channels, ie the Inspector General’s office, or through their congress person. Unfortunately you generally need to do at least part of that in person, ie your name is on it.
Leaking secret information on the internet IS the cowards way out.

According to Lamo, Manning indeed tried to solve the problem in the system in the first time he found something wrong, but he got so desperate from the results that he believed the system does not work at all. In fact, if the system could really work well as you suggested, this bloody war would never exist.
If this were the first time a soldier had concerns about the war, I’d be very surprised. I bet there are plenty of official reports, locked away of course, that detail every official account. The problem with using official channels is that THEY DON’T WORK. If they did, we would see a whole lot more videos like this, albeit edited to hell, but we don’t. Why is that? Well, because congress is a bunch of people in one room, all on the same team, but they seem to wear different colors. Despite this, they all have the same goal. They want to continue on course with our “good christian” ideals and consumption of goods. They don’t want the war to stop(there needs to be a bad guy) because then everyone would focus on what a horrible job they are doing. On the other hand, they don’t want to scare their constituencies with videos of their horrible children murdering people in the middle east. So they take the footage, if it ever exists, and bury it. Like they say, out of sight, out of mind.
Going the other official route is worse. Our military brass are not good people. They train our soldiers to think and act like murderers, cogs in a death machine that are trained to look at all non-soldiers as insurgents and dead accidents. These are the people who Bradley was officially supposed to go to with his concerns. What if he had? Would we see a video, even an official one? Would the direction of the war change? Would we stop killing innocent people walking along the street in front of buildings about to be struck by missiles? Would children no longer be indiscriminately fired upon, and their deaths not blamed on their dead parents? No, Bradley would have been pulled off his job and set back at the beginning of his official brainwashing routine. He would have completed this routine, and if it didn’t stick, then they’d find some special training that would. Fortunately, for us, and the world, he didn’t go the official route. He went to the one place where he knew it would be shown and people could make their owns judgements. Hopefully Bradley doesn’t have to pay too much for the admission.
