NY Heritage of Pride Parade, June 24

On Sunday, June 24, Veterans For Peace will be marching with other peace & justice organizations behind our “Free Bradley Manning” banner in New York City’s Heritage of Pride Parade. Pfc. Manning is a 24-year-old gay man who has been held in solitary confinement, charged with “aiding the enemy.” This American soldier faces life in prison for allegedly being the primary whistle-blower who leaked US State Dept. cables that helped inspire revolts in dictatorships across the Middle East and North Africa. The world clearly understands Pfc. Manning’s contribution toward the freedom of information and freedom itself.

We have a 12 foot long banner honoring Bradley’s courage, and we will distribute flyers about his case. Many other Peace & Justice groups will be marching with us. We should have a great turnout from VFP Chapter 34 members and friends.

All members and friends are encouraged to attend this parade, which is the largest annual event in NYC, with a total attendance of over one million. Folks can also meet our contingent along the parade route down Fifth Avenue, e.g. at 5th Ave and 10th St.

Parade starts at 5th Avenue 36 St. ending at Christopher & Greenwich Sts. VFP Assembly location TBA

Contact: VFP Ch 34 VP Bill Gilson at 914-4199728.

  1. I’ll be there with my Wikileaks t-shirt with the Orwellian quote, “In these times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” In Bradley’s case also a, “heroic act.”
