Help us free Bradley Manning, accused WikiLeaks whistle-blower.

We need your help. Your tax-deductible contribution will go towards Bradley Manning’s civilian legal defense team and the public education efforts underway to ensure he stands a fighting chance, both in the US Army courtroom and in the realm of public opinion.

Bradley Manning, a 23-year-old US Army intelligence analyst, stands accused of releasing concealed information to the public via the WikiLeaks website. The most famous of these materials is a video depicting the killing of Iraqi civilians, including two journalists, by a US Apache helicopter crew in Baghdad. He is also charged with sharing the documents known as the Afghan War Diary, the Iraq War Logs, and embarrassing US diplomatic cables.

These documents cover the true number and cause of civilian casualties in Iraq, human rights abuses by US-funded contractors and foreign militaries, the role that spying and bribes play in international diplomacy, and corporate corruption of government. These cables directly contributed to the inability of the US to win legal immunity for US troops from the Iraqi government, resulting in President Obama’s recent statement that US troops will leave Iraqi by year’s end. If Bradley Manning is responsible for the release of this information, he is a hero.

Since May of 2010, Bradley Manning has been held without trial. He is facing a vague military charge of “Aiding the enemy through indirect means” which is punishable by life in prison, or even the death penalty! Meanwhile, no one has been physically harmed by the release of this information. After over a year and half in military prisons, his first court hearing is expected to take place in the Washington DC area in January 2012.
