The Bradley Manning Support Network has released a 90-second campaign video! Now we need you to help us share it: on facebook, in blogs, in e-mails to your friends, and more. Visit: http://iam.bradleymanning.org/ to see our new photo petition and share your own voice.
PBS prepares to do an evening special on Wikileaks, Julian Assange, and the “idealistic young soldier,” Bradley Manning. The Frontline investigation will air May 24th.
Amnesty International has published a report in which they hail Wikileaks, and the newspapers which reported heavily on its contents, as catalysts in the “Arab spring,” the term for the democratic revolts in the middle east. Amnesty’s secretary general, Salil Shetty, begins the document with the strongly inspiring statement:
“The year 2010 may well be remembered as a watershed year when activists and journalists used new technology to speak truth to power and, in so doing, pushed for greater respect for human rights. It is also the year when repressive governments faced the real possibility that their days were numbered.”
Glenn Greenwald recently wrote a strongly-worded anti-war article in which he quoted a 92 year-old prosecutor of the Nuremberg Trials lamenting that the principle condemning aggressive wars that was established after WWII now goes ignored. Greenwald also provides some interesting, albeit disturbing examples of major U.S. media sources featuring reporters who are pro-war and pro-torture. While some might claim that the idea of being a “world citizen” is antiquated, Bradley Manning and his supporter, Glenn Greenwald, challenge us to think and behave otherwise.
Finally, a little something to brighten your day: Boney M Goes Club is a self-described European disco/pop quartet. Their music was sampled in the worldwide hit “Barbra Streisand,” by Duck Sauce. Some supporters just shared with us the funky video for their song “Who the F*** is Wikileaks?” which features the group Anonymous and is getting played on the radio and in clubs in Europe.
