Update 4/12/12: Play for Bradley opens in Wales, Ralph Nader lauds Bradley, and a blow to the prosecution

“The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning” opens in Wales today. A look at the teen life of the accused whistleblower, the play is set to perform at schools throughout Wales, where Bradley grew up – including one in Haverfordwest, which Bradley attended. According to ITVnews, “The play asks how his life progressed from being a teenager in West Wales, to a man facing decades in prison in America.”

Ralph Nader condemns Obama’s assault on whistleblowers, denounces the treatment of Bradley Manning. The former presidential candidate says he agrees with Ron Paul in that “we need more WikiLeaks.”
Federal appeals court strikes down one of Justice Department’s theories for prosecuting Bradley Manning. In a ruling Tuesday, the appeals court declared that employees “may not be prosecuted under a federal anti-hacking statute for simply violating their employer’s computer use policy.
Wired notes how the ruling plays into the Bradley Manning case:
Accused WikiLeaks leaker Bradley Manning is also accused of, among other things, breaching the CFAA [Computer Fraud and Abuse Act] by allegedly exceeding his authorized access of a government computer and providing files to secret-spilling site WikiLeaks. The prosecution doesn’t allege, however, that Manning actually broke into any computer system.
But the appeals court plainly said breaking company computer-use policies does not amount to hacking.
This relates to the minor charges against Bradley, violating Army computer policies, but could have a larger effect on how the case plays out. (Read more…)
