Bradley’s lawyer: government is withholding 250,000 pages of evidence from the defense. The Guardian’s Ed Pilkington reports on new motions that David Coombs published on his blog, the most recent of which claims the government is concealing some 250,000 pages of damage assessments related to Bradley Manning and WikiLeaks:

After much effort was expended, Coombs managed to get the government to admit that what he should have asked for – according to its vocabulary – was “working papers”.

“By morphing, distorting and constantly changing definitions, the government is trying to ‘define’ itself out of producing relevant discovery,” Coombs complains. “It cannot be permitted to do this.”

The defense requested these discovery documents two years ago, and the prosecution has failed to produce them thus far, by evading the request with semantic arguments and claiming that any discussion of “damage” caused is irrelevant to its “aiding the enemy” charge. (Read more…)

Jeremy Scahill: government must reply to legal petition for transparency by June 8. According to a tweet from Jeremy Scahill, the U.S. Army Court of Appeals ordered the government to respond to the petition he and the Nation were a party of, which demands transparency in Bradley Manning’s case, by this Friday, June 8.
