Update 8/3/11: BMSN to attend veteran anti-war conference this weekend, Bradley receives Pwnie award
More than 300 military veterans are gathering in Portland, OR this weekend for the annual conventions of Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans for Peace. Staff of Courage to Resist will be joining them, representing the Bradley Manning Support Network, and promoting their new book, About Face, which covers both Bradley Manning and Ethan McCord.
TechDirt has an article about the ongoing lawsuit between David House and the American government. It states, “there is a tremendous “basis” for a court to conclude that searches of electronic devices differ than searches of a closed container. That’s because, as we’ve discussed at length before, what’s in your laptop and what’s in a container at the border are entirely different…” because you can exclude contents from a container in the way you can’t a laptop. In addition, they said that the search and seizure was frivolous because if Mr. House wanted to share information that was potentially sensitive he would have used the internet, not taken a laptop over a border. The full court documents are available at the source.
Bradley Manning has received the Pwnie Award for Best Use of Lady Gaga at a recent conference. Wikileaks, LulzSec, AntiSec, and a number of other figures in the hacking community were also nominated or received awards.
ABC Australia’s website is hosting audio about the Sydney forum which discussed Bradley Manning’s case this week.
