From the courtroom: paintings and a poem
Our friend and supporter Deb Vanpoolen has been attending the trial since the day it started on June 3rd. With here colored pencils and sketching papers, Deb has been documenting the trial through sketching live from the courtroom. She generously shared with us these three images and a poem that she wrote to Bradley.
Here’s what Deb shared with us:
“I plan to attend and make sketches/drawings/paintings each day of the court martial that the public is welcome. Please spread the word about Bradley because we must be the media!
You hear every word spoken
While you sit there silent
On the edge of your seat
Back straight
At attention
For Col. Denise Lind
You spring to your feet
Always the first to rise
Sometimes you approve transcripts
Responding to the judge, “Yes, your honor.”
But ninety-nine percent of the time
Your voice is not heard
As others examine
The clicks of your fingers
You take notes
Rotate the pen in your hand
On breaks
You talk with your neighbors
Sometimes you smile
Even snicker
Most of the time
You wait
You have waited 1107 days
We wait with you Bradley
We are your neighbors
We are you
We are all Bradley Manning”
Protesters opposed to next week’s G8 meeting of world leaders have held up placards spelling out the name of US soldier Bradley Manning, suspected of passing classified information to website Wikileaks.
