Birgitta Jónsdóttir, a member of the Icelandic parliament, will be flying to the US in support of Bradley Manning. However her lawyers have recommended that she not fly to the US, based on the chance that she may be further persecuted for her support of the whistle-blower website WikiLeaks, and Bradley Manning. In the past the Department of Justice subpoenaed Jonsdottir, forcing Twitter to passover her social media communications as part of their investigation into WikiLeaks. She also asserts that the FBI hacked into her personal computer. She will travel to the US in support of Bradley Manning sometime in April. (Read more…)
The United States government was embarrassed last week when news broke that FBI agents had, without any approval of Iceland, tried to conduct investigations in the country in August 2011. When the Interior Minister learned of them, they were sent home, and police were ordered to cease collaboration with the FBI. Should anyone be questioned, he ordered it be done by Icelandic police. Julian Assange discussed the fact Bradley Manning will soon have spent 1,000 days in prison without trial, as part of the speech he wrote to accept the “Courage Award 2013″ awarded to him by Yoko Ono Lennon. Michael Ratner, of the Center for Constitutional Rights, delivered Assange’s speech. Assange also mentioned Aaron Swartz, the information activist and supporter of Manning who recently committed suicide after being aggressively and unreasonably persecuted by the Department of Justice for hacking into a database of scholarly articles in hopes of making academic research more accessible. Pentagon Papers whistle-blower Daniel Ellsberg also attended the event and stated that he hoped Bradley Manning and Julian Assange would win the next Nobel Peace Prize. (Read more…)
Bradley Manning is my HERO!!! I hope someday I can repay him! Shame! Shame!! Shame on our leaders for allowing this to happen to him!Hopefully everyone responsible will be brought to justice.

The U.S. vs. John Lennon, the subject of an eponymous movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478049/) would be a wonderful precedent for the U.S. vs. Bradley Manning, if only the legal principles and facts were the same in the earlier case and the present case. Regardless of the outcome in the present case, the two kangaroo-court trials will prove to be lasting embarrassments for the U.S. government and cautionary tales for dissenters.
Words cannot adequately express gratitude to Yoko Ono Lennon for her timely, courageous, generous, humanitarian support of Julian Assange, and by extension, support of Bradley Manning, and support of defenders of freedom everywhere in all times.
