Veterans For Peace UK launches in solidarity with Bradley Manning. In London, Vets For Peace UK launches, inviting supporters to “hear veterans speak the truth about war,” including US Army vet Gerry Condon of the Bradley Manning Support Network. Here’s logistic information:

‘The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning” play opens this week. The National Theatre Wales production opens in schools throughout Wales this Thursday, April 12, running through April 28. Bradley went to school in Wales, so the play looks at his upbringing:
Bradley Manning is the 24-year old US soldier accused of releasing 250,000 secret embassy cables and military logs from the Iraq and Afghan wars. After nearly two years in prison without charge, Manning now faces a court martial, accused of crimes that could mean life in prison. But just a few years ago, he was a teenager in west Wales. How did this happen? And who is responsible for his radicalisation?

DOJ indicts yet another whistleblower. Bradley Manning’s prosecution can be seen in the context of President Obama’s extensive secrecy despite guarantees of transparency. The newest prosecution, of ex-CIA agent John Kiriakou, furthers this trend:
[T]he prosecution of Kiriakou is part of a policy of state secrecy and repression that pervades the US government under Obama, who came into office promising “the most transparent administration in history.” This marks the sixth government whistleblower to be charged by the Obama administration under the Espionage Act, twice as many such prosecutions as have been brought by all preceding administrations combined. Prominent among them is Private Bradley Manning, who is alleged to have leaked documents exposing US war crimes to WikiLeaks. He has been held under conditions tantamount to torture and faces a possible death penalty.
These prosecutions, of those accused of exposing the truth, appear especially harsh and repressive when many war criminals and torturers remain immune. (Read more…)
