San Francisco activists stand up for Bradley

Activists took to the streets of San Francisco Saturday, March 19th to protest the ongoing illegal occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. While hundreds marched down Market street holding banners and shouting slogans against the wars, activists from the Bradley Manning Support Network  performed dramatic street theater.  Hands tied behind their back, gags sporting the word “truth” covering their mouths, they marched in line, set apart from the crowd, to a somber drum beat.  The prisoners for truth had signs hung around their neck that raised awareness about Bradley Manning.  They marched in this fashion for two hours through the cold and the rain, and were met with swarms of cameras and cheers of support.

On Sunday, March 20th, members of the Internet group Anonymous organized a rally in Yerba Buena Gardens to correspond with the larger action in support of Bradley Manning taking place at Quantico.  Members of the Bradley Manning Support Network and Veterans for Peace were also in attendance.  Following speeches from a few leading activists, the group held signs near the busy intersection of 4th and Mission St. to catch the attention of drivers and  people exiting the conference center across the street.

Code Pink organized their own action on March 22nd to call attention to the inhumane conditions of Bradley Manning’s pretrial confinement. The demonstrators stripped naked, as Bradley has been forced to do every night since the announcement of his final charges on March 2nd, 2011, and attached signs to their bodies drawing onlookers attention towards our cause.
