Reports from the arraignment

Bradley Manning Support Network organizers were in the courtroom today for Bradley’s arraignment on 22 charges, including “aiding the enemy”. Most noteworthy is that the government requested an August start date for the General Courts Martial proceedings–three months later than expected. If the government gets its way, which they have on most issues, then Bradley will have served over 800 days in confinement prior to trial! We’ll have our own notes posted soon, but here is some of the best coverage so far:

According to the Associated Press:

The only outburst was as the judge adjourned the hearing. “Judge, isn’t a soldier required to report a war crime?” protester David Eberhardt of Baltimore said loudly. She [military judge Col. Denise Lind] didn’t respond. A 70-year-old member of the anti-war group Code Pink, Eberhardt was referring to Manning’s alleged leaking of a video showing the 2007 Apache helicopter attack in Iraq that killed a Reuters news photographer and his driver. The government says it was accidental.

  1. that’s ridiculous, Bradley Manning should be suing the USA government for aiding the ‘enemy’ by providing the weapons to the ‘enemy’ (by funding both sides of the conflict and artificially inducing and continuing nonexistent conflict by fake war) but there are no enemies, is the point why Bradley Manning is a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee 2012, what a concept, http://wikileaks.org/wiki/US_Military_Equipment_in_AfghanistanDOES NO ONE in the high ranks of ‘the military forces’ GET THIS ? we’ll draw up charts and 10 000 pages memo, maybe a movie, but really how long till it sinks in…. Dear high rank military forces, it all started by thieves on Wall street to steal from taxpayers, but they had to have a good reason to cover up a huge sum of money missing, so they involved you to help them obfuscate loosing gagillion $ in one big bruhaha thousand times layered mess, look into your books, there is no way to account for $3.2-4 trillion in expenses for those wars, follow the money trail !

  3. In the real world this election theater is a blip on the screen. For sure Manning’s case is causing some serious political problems for America’s international image of “Freedom & Democracy,” but our sick & dying political/economical system doesn’t give a damn… Unless they are shaken up by a mass social revolt!!!

  4. It makes me sad knowing we live in the greatest country in the world, and we’re the greatest proof of corruption, fear-mongering, war-profiteering, and the death of the American dream is real with acts of torture against good people. Bradley Manning is the only hero.
