The organizers of this event stand in solidarity with Bradley Manning in opposing the actions of the US Military and the US Government. The event marks the 1001st day of Bradley Manning’s detention and provisionally marks 100 days to the start of his full trial proceedings.
The following statement reflects a widely held belief that the US Military and the US Government has engaged in illegal treatment of Bradley Manning during the time Bradley has been held in detention, and contrary to his right to a speedy trial.
Further, Bradley Manning was for a time held by the US Military in Quantico, Virginia US Marines Base in a windowless isolation cell measuring 6 feet by 8 feet, 24 hours a day, and he is believed to have been subjected to torture and human rights violations contrary to the provisions of the US Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to which the the US is a signatory nation.
In consideration of having signed and ratified a number of the Conventions, it is believed the US Military and therefore the US Government under President Obama is in violation of Articles 2, 5, 7, 11, 12 and 30 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in connection with the imprisonment and treatment of US Army PFC Specialist Bradley Manning. Other violations and offences may also apply.
