Campaign Staff

The Bradley Manning Support Network is a grassroots effort involving thousands of people and organizations around the world advocating for the freedom of WikiLeaks whistle-blower PFC Bradley Manning, by raising money for his legal fees, promoting public education, and organizing creative actions to gain media attention and influence our officials. While there are many volunteers whose efforts are crucial to making the Bradley Manning Support Network successful, below are the core staff whose daily work advocating for PFC Manning’s well-being keep the nuts and bolts of the Network turning:

Jeff Paterson, Courage to Resist Project Director – In August 1990, Marine artilleryman Corporal Jeff Paterson became the first of many US military personnel to refuse to fight in Iraq. Today, Jeff is the project director of Courage to Resist, an Oakland-based organization dedicated to supporting GI war resisters and conscientious objectors. Courage to Resist hosts the Bradley Manning Defense Fund in collaboration with the Bradley Manning Support Network. Jeff is also a steering committee member of the Bradley Manning Support Network.

Emma Cape, Campaign Organizer – Emma has been advocating for social justice ever since her role in organizing fellow high school activists against the invasion of Iraq 9 years ago. After attending Bowdoin College, she has worked for a number of grassroots political non-profits fighting for human rights and environmental protections. She believes that saving Bradley is as important as anything she’s worked on, because the information attributed to him sheds light on a system of foreign policy that routinely hides abuse from public scrutiny. Freeing Bradley is key to holding our leaders accountable and creating a more just and sustainable future.

Owen Wiltshire, Internet Services Manager – Owen is a passionate information activist. Before joining the Bradley Manning Support Network, he worked as a web developer and later completed a masters degree in Anthropology at Concordia University where his research focused on the political economy of academic publishing. His ongoing research into the areas of anthropology and hacktivism, along with his work at the Bradley Manning Support Network, have since brought the issues of imperialism, security, and foreign policy to the fore. He writes, scripts, and codes, while frequently struggling to reduce long essays into perfectly formed 140 character sentences.

farah150Farah Muhsin Al Mousawi, Assistant Campaign Organizer – Farah was born and raised in Iraq. She has been living in the United States since 2008. Farah joined the Iraqi Student Project in 2007 and is a member of the Civilian Soldier Alliance. This year she is the recipient of the Martin Luther King Junior award presented by the Human Rights Commission in Marin County. Farah recently graduated with a degree in Political Science from Dominican University and currently is an administrative assistant to Citizens Reach Out and works as a website developer for the Arab American Cultural Center in Silicon Valley translating interviews of Iraqi refugees.

Michael Thurman, Campaign Support  – Michael Thurman is a Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) era Air Force veteran. Michael’s military experience, specifically working with surveillance aircraft, led him to oppose our nation’s wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. With the help of Courage to Resist, Michael received an honorable discharged as a conscientious objector. Today Michael is a Courage to Resist staff organizer working in support of accused WikiLeaks whistle-blower Bradley Manning primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area and national special events.

Nathan Fuller, Campaign Support – Nathan is a New Jersey based writer, editor, and activist. He studied Documentary Film and Journalism at the College of New Jersey, where he edited a political news magazine. He was active in anti-war, LGBT, and social justice efforts for several years before becoming an avid supporter of Bradley Manning, as well as WikiLeaks. He believes the material Bradley is credited with releasing warrants all the support we can provide. Nathan creates and edits campaign materials, and assists with national special events.

Additional campaign support staff members are responsible for accounting and “Stand with Brad” petition processing.

  1. Bradley Manning was nominated for a obel Peace Prize today. I will support that nomination in any way I can. Many people see him as the “Rosa Parks” of this decade. Here is the Print and the Nomination site with more details:

We have the great honor of nominating Private First Class Bradley Manning for the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize. Manning is a soldier in the United States army who stands accused of releasing hundreds of thousands of documents to the whistleblower website WikiLeaks. The leaked documents pointed to a long history of corruption, war crimes, and imperialism by the United States government in international dealings. These revelations have fueled democratic uprising around the world, including a democratic revolution in Tunisia. According to journalists, his alleged actions helped motivate the democratic Arab Spring movements, shed light on secret corporate influence on our foreign policies, and most recently contributed to the Obama Administration agreeing to withdraw all U.S.troops from the occupation in Iraq.

The documents made public by WikiLeaks should never have been kept from public scrutiny. The revelations – including video documentation of an incident in which American soldiers gunned down Reuters journalists in Iraq – have helped to fuel a worldwide discussion about America’s overseas engagements, civilian casualties of war, imperialistic manipulations, and rules of engagement. Citizens worldwide owe a great debt to the WikiLeaks whistleblower for shedding light on these issues, and so I urge the Committee to award this prestigious prize to accused whistleblower Bradley Manning.

  2. I’d considered writing an article about Bradley Manning and his prosecution

for the Millersville University ( Penna ) paper The Snapper. Can I get

    a telephone contact number ?

  3. It is an International disgrace that Bradley Manning is being held in such circumstances. The man is a hero and should be released.

  4. I am editing a new journal called QED: A Journal in GLBTQ Worldmaking and will be devoting an issue to Bradley Manning. I’d like to include someone from BMSN, perhaps Nathan Fuller. I’d be grateful to be in touch by email so I can send a longer description of the specs on the journal and special issue.

Over the last few years I have written hundreds of letters to Brad. Never received a reply. Don’t know any other Brad supporters who have received a reply. So I stopped writing to Brad. Now days I write almost daily to President Obama, asking him to Free Bradley Manning. It is not clear to me why the support group keeps publishing Brad’s address … as he does not respond. President Obama does not respond either, but I think they at least place a check mark on a list of some sort
