Update 8/21/13: Amnesty International calls on Obama to commute sentence to time served

President Obama, uphold your promise to protect whistleblowers! Pardon Bradley Manning!

President Obama, uphold your promise to protect whistleblowers! Pardon Bradley Manning!

Immediately following Judge Lind’s sentencing announcement that Bradley Manning would be imprisoned for 35 years, Amnesty International issued a statement calling on President Obama to commute the sentence to time served:

Bradley Manning should be shown clemency in recognition of his motives for acting as he did, the treatment he endured in his early pre-trial detention, and the due process shortcomings during his trial.

The President doesn’t need to wait for this sentence to be appealed to commute it; he can and should do so right now.

Bradley Manning acted on the belief that he could spark a meaningful public debate on the costs of war, and specifically on the conduct of the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan. His revelations included reports on battlefield detentions and previously unseen footage of journalists and other civilians being killed in US helicopter attacks, information which should always have been subject to public scrutiny.

Instead of fighting tooth and nail to lock him up for several decades, the US government should turn its attention to investigating and delivering justice for the serious human rights abuses committed by its officials in the name of countering terror.

  1. “the US government should turn its attention to investigating and delivering justice for the serious human rights abuses committed by its officials in the name of countering terror.”

Per capita, the US has more people in prison then any other country; the helicopter crew that murdered the civilians were never prosecuted, the ambassadors were changed but the US foreign policy remains the same, three weeks ago the Congress and Senate aid NSA and its 15 sister agencies can continue to record all phone calls and hack all E-mails etc. etc.

Bradley Manning is toast. Every Tuesday Obama selects civilian drone targets. Its over, Amnesty International is already on the traitor-target list.

  2. There are way too many secret members of the globalist organized crime syndicate in congress and in the president’s entire administration. These people secretly call themselves “Us” and “Satan worshippers”. They are highly educated, very wealthy, very stealthy and cunning. They have mind boggling technology (stolen). They have absolutely NO morals whatsoever and their only rules seem to be “Don’t get caught or arouse any suspicion and don’t betray your fellow Satanists”. They use any criminal method to get what they want (murder, war-mongering, extortion, bribes, spying, abortion, election rigging, lies, threats, assassinations, propaganda, UNconstitutional “laws”, etc. They have evil, deceit and treachery honed to an art and a science. They have taken over MANY (MOST) positions of power, authority, leadership, ownership and governmental positions at every level in every branch in every nation of the world.

They are much worse and more dangerous than jungle savages, but pretend to be upright citizens.

Jesus warned about “wolves in sheep’s clothing; he knew what he was talking about. Pray to recognize these people and pray for all their evils and destructive creations to be returned back to themselves for their own destruction.

  3. Complicit in war crimes if he didn’t speak, and guilty of obstructing the ambitions of corrupt leaders to establish a once-and-for-all USA police-state if he did.
Poor Bradley: Whatever happens to you in the future please stay strong. Without doubt there are millions of us, of all nationalities, who respect and admire you as a person who is a credit to his own country, and humanity as a whole.

  4. I listened to the verdict being read on this modern day hero and I physically cringed. I wondered what is happening to the USA today. I read today that somebody wrote that Bradley Manning would have received better treatment if he’d have shot an unarmed black teenager. Makes you think, doesn’t it?
